Book Club – "The Forgotten Garden" by Kate Morton

PHOTO FROM GOOGLE FILES

This is the book that the members of the book club I belong to will be reading over the holidays.
“It is the story of a tiny girl who is abandoned on a ship headed for Australia in 1913.  She arrives completely alone with nothing but a small suitcase containing a few clothes and a single book – a beautiful volume of fairy tales.  She is taken in by the dockmaster and his wife and raised as their own.  On her twenty-first birthday, they tell her the truth, and with her sense of self shattered and very little to go on, ‘Nell’ sets out to trace her real identity.  Her quest leads her to Blackhurst Manor on the Cornish coast and the secrets of the doomed Mountrachet family.  But, it is not until her granddaughter, Cassandra, takes up the search after Nell’s death that all the pieces of the puzzle are assembled.”   (From the book jacket)
I’ve just nicely started to read it, but so far it seems really good.

  •      Have you read it?
  •      If so, what did you think?
  •      Do you feel it lives up to all the positive reviews it has received?

  1. You know I loved it…and didn't even notice how many pages it had until the end. It gets better the more you get into the book.

  2. Thanks for reminding about this book Monica – I read it a while ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was a bit ho – hum in places but a good read just the same. Might look it out again and have a reread during the summer.
Hope you have a Happy Christmas – I'm having a bit of a break but I'll be blogging again soon
    Take care
    Cathy

  3. I enjoyed it. My bookclub read it last year and some members found it too easy. I just enjoyed the read and then found The House at Riverton, by the same author.
