Have you heard of The Little Cape Cod Witch series of children’s books written by J. Bean Palmer? I’ve just finished reading the first two books in the series, The Cape Cod Witch and the Pirate’s Treasure {newly titled, ElsBeth and the Halloween Haunt} and Book II, The Cape Cod Witch and the Legend of the Pirate.
They are two of the most refreshing and delightful children’s books I have read in a very long time. Being a proponent of our Earths health, I was thrilled to see a message of care for the environment woven into the storyline. These wonderfully illustrated books would make great reading for both boys and girls in the 7 – 12 age group, but may well appeal to a slightly older audience and also a younger age group, if the book is read to them.
The books revolve around ElsBeth Amelia Thistle, the youngest witch on Cape Cod and a colourful group of supporting characters including:
- Her friend, Sylvanas, the Magical Cat
- ElsBeth’s grandmother, Hannah Goodspell
- Bartholomew, the former Indian Prince . . .now a frog
- ElsBeth’s Classmates – the Pesky Boys
- And the Girls
ElsBeth is involved in all the normal aspects of growing up, however, being a witch, she is of course, a little different too and you or your child will love reading about her adventures!
In addition to the two books mentiomed, I also received the beautifully illustrated colouring book – The Little Cape Cod Witch Colouring Book , a book-mark and an autographed copy of The Little Cape Cod Witch Cookbook, full of ElsBeth’s most treasured recipes and stories, including:
- Elves
- Amazing Agave Nectar
- Why Honey?
- Dandy Desserts
- Breakfast is Best
- Delightful Drinks
These excellent books would make wonderful additions to any home children’s library and would be an amazing gift for any of the elementary aged children or a teacher in your life.

My nieces are avid fantasy readers and my daughter is following their lead. Who says mysteries are just for adults! This series helps young readers problem solve and be entertained at the same time.
I learned that you can purchase the ebook of book 1 in the series for only 99cents

I learned that the books are printed here in the USA and also “green”! WTG!!!
I learned that J Bean Palmer has a degree in Environmental Science.
I liked this comment as I have 2 boys! What makes my nephews’ recommendations so remarkable is that they’re sort of reluctant readers. One in particular devours comics but mostly “reads” the illustrations. “Star Wars” books are their favorites.
“And hey, anytime two boys jump up and down (literally) and implore me to read something, I listen.
“Good magic is difficult on an empty stomach”! I love that there is a cookbook too.
I like that it is good for boys and girls ages 8 to 13 to read and also younger kids 5-7 can enjoy listening to the stories
i like that its based on cape cod, thats where i live!
“with a degree in Environmental Science, she weaves a message of care for the environment in her high spirited ElsBeth, the Little Cape Cod Witch stories. “
Printed in the USA!
Thanks for making this open to Canadians.
