About the “Older Mommy” —

Now when you stop laughing at the name I’ll tell you how it came to be!

When I first stopped working people would ask me, “what are you going to do now”?  I would jokingly tell them I was going to start writing a blog about our life with older children and was going to call this blog, Older Mommy Still Yummy.  Well, my joke became reality and Older Mommy Still Yummy was born!

I live in Atlantic Canada, have been married for many years to an amazing man (my Older Mommy Still Yummy partner) and together we have two grown children.

In my “other life” I was an Operating Room Nurse in a fast-paced regional hospital. My life is now less structured and since staying home, I have very quickly become addicted to blogging and social media!

We love to write about our adventures with food, recipes, healthy living, living green, travel and life in general.

We hope you will join us as we head out on yet another fun adventure!

About the “Older Daddy”  —

Hi folks, I’m Randy.

In addition to being married to Monica, (my most important job), I contribute or at least try to contribute, to many facets of the blog.

My background is in marketing and sales, having represented major national and international brands in the Atlantic Canadian marketplace both in management and for the latter part of  my career operating my own business as an independent manufacturer’s representative.

We sincerely hope you find the recipes and articles in the blog both timely, interesting and enjoy them as much as we enjoy putting them together.

Bon appetit and happy travels.

  1. I am an Older Mommy as well but in a few different ways. I am 60 years old. Our biological children are grown and married with children. We have also fostered for 20+ years and have recently adopted 2 of our foster children. A little boy who is now 5 and we brought him home at 3 days old and his older sister who is 8. Plus in our home we have grown foster children that are like our own. The oldest of a sibling group is 24 and was 5 when they joined our family, he is working full time and rooming and boarding now with us, his brother is 21 and working full time and rooming and boarding here as well, their sister is 22 and married with 2 children, youngest sister is turning 19 right away and going to university and this is her home. Another sibling group of a brother and sister ages 19 and she is in school, and her brother who is 17, they have with us for 12 years. And we have a 2 year old girl here for awhile and a 3 year old boy. We have been blessed with 12 grandchildren also and they are ages 19 years to 5 months. I work full time and my wonderful husband is home full time. He retired 8 years ago and is taking on cooking and kids now. I used to work part time when all of our children were small but now in order to keep everyone fed and clothed I am working full time. I love quick and easy healthy recipes. I found your site and enjoy it very much.

    • Hi Sharon,

It is so nice to meet you and …WOW! It certainly sounds like you and your husband are wonderful people. How lucky all of your children are! Sounds like you still have a very busy household, that is what I miss the most. Keep up the awesome work you and your husband have been doing.

I’m so happy you have been enjoying my site,

      Monica

I absolutely love the idea behind your blog. I have a 14 year old, a 12 year old, and a baby girl that is getting ready to turn 1 in 1 week. I know, we started all over again:) You are right, there aren’t many mom blogs that deal with teen kids.

I am a self employed PR consultant and I have clients that use mom bloggers (which I have 1 that I would like to speak with you about) and we have really had to dig to find the right blogs.

In my spare time, I have also started blogging (besides on my business site) at http://www.livingyourpassion414.wordpress.com. If you get a chance, take a look at it. I am going in the direction of traveling with kids and not being afraid to follow your passions with your kids.

Anyway, I love your blog and I wanted to leave a comment to let you know.

    Take care!

    • Hi Nicole and thank you so much for your very kind words! You are smart to have another baby, I have always regretted not having a larger family. I would be happy to speak with you about PR opportunities. I am leaving in a couple hours and will be away for the next week but home again on the 14th. I’m heading over now to give your blog a quick look now and check it out in more detail when I return. Monica

Hi Monica: I just came across your site….and I admit I did laugh at the title. I truly love seeing all the creative names people come up with for their blogs. I found your story rather interesting…because I too am in the same boat. I live in Ontario…have recently retired….and this is my retirement project. For my retirement gift my husband bought me a beautiful computer to replace my old (very slow) one. So here I am…wife, mom and grandmother….loving the “new” life. Look forward to seeing more of you as we embark this “social media” craze. Your site is great!!

    • Hi Gloria, it is so nice to meet a fellow older mommy, especially someone with “yummy” in their blog name! What a sweet husband you have, a new computer is an awesome retirement gift. I am heading over now to check out your site and the first thing I am going to look at is your recipe for “Oh My Reese’s Cupcakes”…lol

  6. So nice to “meet” you. I am an “older mommy” too. An almost empty nester who enjoys simple green healthy living. Looking forward to reading more here!

    • Hi Pam, so nice to meet a fellow “older mommy”! We don’t seem to be very plentiful in the blogheshere. I see you have a blog too, will check it out when I get back to a “real” computer. Hope to talk to you again soon, Monica

  7. I just came across your blog….via a very delicious looking recipe I found on Pinterest for Seafood linguini. I can’t wait to try this! I have some scallops and asparagus in my fridge so not exactly what I need for tonight I’ve pinned it for later. I noticed you live in Canada….have you heard of Rodan and Fields? #1 premium skin care for anti-aging. perfect for older mommies with young or older children!

    • Thank you for the Pin! I am not familiar with Rodan and Fields Sabrina, are their products available in Canada? (PS The Seafood Linguine is out of this world good, a bit pricey, but a nice treat for special occasions!)

      • Yeah! My very first blog comment and I got a quick response!

We’ve just launched in Canada. We are a multilevel marketing company and we just earned the titles of #2 premium skin care line overall, #1 in anti aging and #1 for acne in the USA. You may remember the dermatologists that created Proactiv? These are the same doctors that pulled their Rodan and Fields line from high end department stores in 2008 and launched in direct sales. Women young and seasoned have been finding success in using the product themselves or selling. We are new to the Canadian market which means the money making opportunity is huge.

I can share more but at the risk of sounding like a pushy salesperson I’ll stop here!
