My trip to Brookdale Treeland Nurseries Limited (BTN) {PC Insider’s Report}

This past Wednesday, I had the wonderful opportunity to visit Brookdale Treeland Nurseries Limited (BTN) located near Sussex in New Brunswick.

BTN is a wholesale operation and what you may not know is they supply tropical plants, perennials, evergreens, trees and shrubs found in our Atlantic Superstore Flower Markets.

{This is just a small corner of the very large Brookdale Treeland Nurseries Limited operation near Sussex, NB}

Brookdale Treeland Nurseries Limited have five locations across the country (so they are the suppliers for your Loblaw store too!) and have been in operation since 1983 . They are one of the largest growers of nursery stock and perennial plants in Canada and their products are available in all Loblaw Companies Limited garden centres.

I was thrilled when I learned the plants and trees I had been purchasing from the Atlantic Superstore garden centres were grown so close to home.  I’m not going to lie, I always thought the garden centre products found in Atlantic Superstores were grown in Ontario and then shipped to Atlantic Canada.

Brookdale Treeland Nurseries Limited is recognized for the innovative and creative products that it grows which are designed for today’s consumer. They have been a proud member of the team of Loblaw growers for nearly 20 years.

This year BTN is thrilled to present many exclusives you will only find under the President’s Choice® label, plus exciting products and new plant colours that will take your breath away!

On my recent visit to BTN I had the opportunity to see many of the gorgeous plants that  BTN supplies for the Insider’s Report.  I have included some descriptions and also some photos of many of them including:

PC Oleander Braid (New & Exclusive to PC) - Three oleander plants growing together with intertwining trunks is spectacular!  This plant is like a spectacular bouquet with a mild fragrance.

PC Gardenia/PC Hibiscus Braid/PC Mandevilla  - last year the fragrant Gardenia, the vivid tri-colour Hibiscus and the pink, yellow centered Mandevilla were all very popular and they are back to transform your deck or patio into a tropical oasis!

PC Haskap 2 in 1 – (New & Exclusive to PC) Until about a year ago I was not familiar with the Haskap berry so I was very excited to see this plant.  The plump and juicy Haskap berries taste like a cross between blueberries, raspberries and Saskatoon berries. This year the breeder suggested planting 2 compatible varieties in one pot for proper cross-pollination, to ensure lots of fruit.  One of the earliest fruits to ripen, they are perfect for jams, baking or straight from the bush!

PC Double Berry Planter - (New & Exclusive to PC) Why choose between juicy blueberries and succulent strawberries when you can enjoy both in the new double berry planter;  perfect for the deck or patio!

PC Clematis Esme/PC Clematis Abilene/PC Clematis Planter on Trellis - (New & Exclusive to PC) You don’t need a big backyard to grow these beautiful plants, these come in a decorator planter already in flower and climbing up a mini trellis.  All you need to do is place it on your deck, patio, balcony or porch and enjoy!

PC Patio Accents, Evergreen Planters – PC asked it’s growers to create gorgeous and affordable evergreen planters as a great new planter option.  These long low planters would be perfect as an accent or would also make a super divider!

I had a wonderful morning at Brookdale Treeland Nurseries and I want to say a special thank you to Joe Sturgeon who was kind enough to take a couple hours from his very busy day to give me comprehensive and very informative tour of their spacious wholesale garden operation.

    How wonderful for you!! I love nurseries and the beautiful scents of the flowers. I still have to pick up some more plants and your post has helped me decide what to do.

  2. Those intertwining trunks are way cool. So the public can’t buy from the tree farm unless they are doing it on a wholesale basis?

    • That is correct JoJo, the public cannot buy from BTN, however, they supply the Loblaws/Superstore chain so you can purchase at their locations. The plants were gorgeous and it was such a unique and wonderful experience!

    Very cool! I’ve never been to a nursery like this before. I knew that PC Garden Centres carry Canadian plants but didn’t know where they came from either. Thanks for sharing.
