Fall Re-Start of Book Club ~ See Our Choices for 2015-2016

Fall has arrived in all it’s magnificent glory!  I had mentioned this in an earlier post, but I really do believe, fall is my favourite season of the year. The air is crisp and clean with no trace of oppressive heat or bitter cold. Maybe it is just me, but I think the sun shines more often in the autumn too.  The hustle, bustle and constant activity of the summer are just a fun memory.  Fall brings with it not only beautiful days but home gardens and Farmer’s Markets bursting with fresh … [Read more...]

A Girls Trip to Fundy National Park

Last week my two sisters, my niece and I went on a fun day trip to Fundy National Park.  We are very fortunate to have this gorgeous national park a relatively short drive from where we all live. My sisters and I are also very lucky that our sweet niece/daughter likes to spend time with her aunts and mom. She has acted as the driver on many, many, many fun road trips. We lovingly call her our "pack mule", a phrase she coined on a trip we all took to visit relatives in Virginia. On that … [Read more...]

Book Club ~ Annabel by Kathleen Winter

I belong to a Reading Group/Book Club. The book that we just finished reading is, Annabel by Kathleen Winter. {Image attribution: Goodreads} I did a little research and found that Kathleen Winter was born in the UK, but raised in Newfoundland and Labrador; this is where Annabel is set. It was published in 2010, and won the Thomas Head Raddall Award. It was also a shortlisted nominee for the Scotiabank Giller Prize, the Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize and the 2010 Governor General's … [Read more...]

Have you Read, A House In the Sky, by Amanda Lindhout?

I just finished reading the riveting memoir,  A House In the Sky by Amanda Lindhout and Sara Corbett.  To say I found it difficult to put down would be a bit of an understatement. The book tells a story of, Amanda Lindhout, who is from Alberta, Canada. As a young child, living in an unstable and turbulent household, she collected and cashed in bottles. With the money she earned, she purchased old National Geographic magazines. She escaped into the descriptions and photos of the exotic places … [Read more...]

Top 20 Recipes of 2014

This is the time of year, that many of us take the opportunity, to look back on our accomplishments and missteps from the past year.  I think doing this can be very therapeutic; we learn and grow from our past experiences. Bloggers like to do this too. It is fun for us to take a look at our blogging statistics from the previous year and take note of posts that have been popular or not so popular.  Among other things, it is a great way to gauge reader interests and hopefully make your … [Read more...]

10 Sensational Reads for 2015

I am by no means a literary expert, but I do love to read.  Over the past several years I have read many, many, many books and although only based on my likes, I thought it would be fun to give you a list of my top 10 from the last five or so years. When I started going through the books, I soon discovered this was going to be no easy task.  There was something about almost every book that I liked. There were a couple I didn't care for and for a variety of reasons, there were many of these … [Read more...]

The Twisted Sisters at the Captain’s Lookout Cottages {Hotel Room Tour}

A few weeks ago my sisters and I went on a little girls getaway.  We only had a couple of days, so didn't want to venture too far. We decided on a staycation in our home province of New Brunswick, where we  would explore, or re-explore in some cases, the beautiful Fundy coastline. We based our stay out of one of the cutest little cottages, Captain's Lookout Cottages, located in New Horton, N.B. (sounds like it could be in a Dr. Seuss book doesn't it...lol). We picked this cottage, not only … [Read more...]

The Twisted Sisters Visit Hopewell Rocks, New Brunswick

A few weeks ago my sisters and I went on a little girls getaway.  As I mentioned in my post outlining our trip to Cape Enrage, N.B., we only had a couple of days, so didn't want to venture too far.  We decided to have a staycation in our home province of New Brunswick.  We wanted to explore, or re-explore in some cases, the beautiful Fundy coastline. We rented the cutest little cabin in the tiny hamlet of New Horton, N.B., planned some delicious meals, packed our suitcases and coolers and … [Read more...]

The Twisted Sisters Visit Cape Enrage, New Brunswick

My sisters and I recently went on a little weekend getaway.  Our last trip together had been this past July, when we went on our annual camping adventure to New River Beach Provincial Park . And...we were feeling the need for some more sisters time! We rented a little cottage in New Horton, New Brunswick, packed our coolers and suitcases and were on our way.  We only had a couple of days together so did not want to travel far, so we decided to explore the Fundy coast.  Cape Enrage is about … [Read more...]

50 Book Club Choices ~ Have You Read Any of These?

I love the fall.  The heat and humidity of summer is a distant memory. Gardens have an abundance of flowers and produce and the Farmer's Markets are in full swing. While summer is always full of fun activities and family time...it is often not the, "lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer" that we imagine, in fact it is often a very busy time of the year. Another reason why I love the fall is the resumption of our book club.  We always take the summers off and I look forward to September when … [Read more...]

2012 Beaujolais Nouveau

I am definitely NOT in any way, shape or form a wine expert, however, we do like to enjoy an occasional glass and love trying new varieties of both red and white wines. We discovered Beaujolais Nouveau about 7 or 8 years ago, and ever since have made an effort to pick up a couple bottles before it quickly disappears for another year. … [Read more...]
