Post winter storm warm-up with #EqualCanada
January 29, 2012 by · 9 Comments
Friday, we had one of those, oh so Maritime, messy winter storms. It wasn’t the amount of precipitation that was the problem …it was the various forms the precipitation took!
In the past, I was never all that diligent with my coupon use, but since I’ve stopped working full-time I’ve been able to search for and clip coupons. In fact, on this past Thursday, I saved $34.75 by using coupons…not to shabby!!
Enough gloating, back to my shopping trip! My first stop today was at Sobeys.
Like many people, I’m trying to cut down on empty calories wherever possible. Using Equal is a great way to add sweetness to your foods and beverages without adding calories.
So, I headed into Sobeys looking for a couple Equal products, as well as some canned items and fresh tomatoes.
While I was unable to find the the new Equal granulated sweetener in the distinctive yellow canister, I was able to find the convenient Equal tablets I was also looking for.
I put the Equal tablets in my basket, quickly grab the other items I was searching for and head toward the checkout. ( I wasn’t able to use any coupons this trip, but the canned items I am purchasing are on sale for $0.89 each…bonus!!)
On my way to the check-out I remember hearing about Equal being featured in the Grocery Business Canada magazine. I feel it would be an interesting article to read, so I decide to grab a copy on my way to the checkout.
Unfortunately, even though a very friendly lady at the Customer Service Counter of Sobeys, (and later, another equally friendly lady at the Atlantic Superstore) help me search high and low, we are unsuccessfully in finding a copy.
If you happen to find the magazine, I would love it if you checked out the Equal article and let me know what it’s all about.
All this shopping and searching has made me thirsty and my hands and feet are freezing! Why, you may ask? Well, my gloves are all warm and cozy… at home… and the slushy parking lots that I’ve just trudged through have made me realize the fancy boots I am wearing are NOT waterproof!
I head home for something hot to warm my tired and cold body…and I know exactly what I’m going to make!!
I quickly brew up some pumpkin spice coffee, add a 1/2 ounce….ok, ok…1 ounce of Khalua, 1 Equal tablet (= 1 tsp. of sugar, with non of the guilt), and froth some 2% milk for the top.
I love the convenience of the tablets, how easily they dispense, they dissolve immediately and you can just throw the container in your purse, so you always have Equal close at hand.
Awhhh…even a good Canadian girl has to admit, this is a much more civilized way to spend a Saturday afternoon!!

It started by snowing for a couple of hours, then changed to a few hours of freezing rain and then to rain for most of the night…what a mess!!
However, being a good Canadian girl that wasn’t going to keep me home! I needed to run to the grocery store for a couple of items for dinner, and as usual, before leaving for the store I grabbed my handy stash of coupons.
Oh my goodness! Your coffee looks incredible! Great idea :D
Thanks Heather…it really warms you through and through!
We had that freezing rain on Friday! The roads were SO slippery!! You are very brave to go shopping with a freezing rain. That coffee is really worth it!
Olfa
Olfa, Our roads were starting to get a bit better and I knew I would have that “special” coffee when I got home!! lol
Came here from Cbias to check out this post—love what I am seeing on this blog! Glad to have discovered it. :) your pictures are really great, love the one with the mug at the end. Those tablets seem like they’d be handy. I could put the package in my purse to take with me when coffee places don’t carry Equal!
Thanks for your sweet comments Tazim! You’re right about the tablets, they’re super convenient and I keep mine in my purse so they’re always handy!
Oh my! Your coffee looks fantastic. We’ve enjoyed quite a bit of snow over the weekend, tomorrow I must find a way to dig out and visit the store – it’s what Canadian girls must do. Good to know you can’t find the canister at Sobeys, I’ll check ours next time.
Thanks Pam, the coffee was delicious!! I later checked our Superstore as well and didn’t find the canister there either. Happy shovelling, we’re supposed to have snow again tomorrow so we’ll soon be out there digging out again too!!
Seems like you can only find the canister at WalMart right now. Time for a comment card or two at the other stores :)
