Healthy Living – The Heart Truth

The Heart Truth™ is heart disease and stroke is the # 1 killer of women in Canada, but most don’t know it.   Heart disease is not a “man’s disease”:  women are more likely than men to die of a heart attack or stroke.

If women put their own health first they can reduce their risk of heart disease and stroke by as much as 80 per cent through lifestyle changes like exercising and eating right. That’s why Health Check is proud to be a contributing sponsor of The Heart Truth campaign. A minimum of 150 minutes of physical activity per week and 4 to 10 servings of vegetables and fruit each day, plus limited consumption of saturated and trans fat and sodium will help put women on the right track.

“February can be a month when the bitter cold keeps us wrapped in a blanket on the couch, or bundled up head to toe for those brave enough to venture outside. To help you stay both healthy and stylish this month, Health Check has launched a Healthy Food is in Style! contest.

For the next three weeks you can enter every day to win great prizes as well as spread the word about The Heart Truth™. Heart disease and stroke is the number one killer of women and through a healthy lifestyle and diet, you can reduce that statistic. You could win one of 21 daily prizes, or one of 10 $1,000 grocery gift cards.  You could also win a trip for two to Toronto to attend The Heart Truth fashion show and VIP reception on March 8, including a healthy cooking class with our registered dietitians and a grocery store shopping tour!”  (http://www.healthcheck.org/)
