Update – Blogger to WordPress move

The debate about which blogging platform is better is ongoing.  It’s like asking someone if they prefer Pepsi or Coke.  Each has its own strengths and weaknesses; each has its own followers, and the decision as to which camp you belong,  is a personal one.

I’m “older” and didn’t grow up with a computer, I had initially struggled with and had eventually become very comfortable with Blogger,  I was hesitant to make a change.

However,  unless I was going to fork over a lot of money for a professionally designed site, I was starting to see some limitations with Blogger.  There was also the knowledge that Google could terminate my account at any time, “Google may, in its sole discretion, at any time and for any reason, terminate the Service, terminate this Agreement, or suspend or terminate your account.”  (Blogger Terms of Service), this felt like a razor sharp sword hanging over my head.  Finally,  I had heard so many good things about WordPress and the recent GFC fiasco was, for me,  the final straw.

It’s been just about a month since I took a giant leap of faith and moved my blog, I guess it would be more accurate to say a “moving company” moved my blog from Blogger to WordPress.

The first several hours and days were chaotic to say the least and as you know if you’ve been following along, I asked myself more than once, “what have I done?”

I want to extend a very special thank-you to Kathryn at Mommy Kat and Kids, who came to my rescue on several occasions.  She was extremely patient, knowledgeable and answered every one of my dumb questions without making me feel I was from a different planet.  Kathryn has a weekly series of quick tips for WordPress bloggers that I urge you to check out,  they’re under the “Blogging” tab on her site.

Lastly, all negativity aside and looking back with clearer, and dare I say wiser eyes…wait, wait, wait…yes…I’m going to say it…I’m now very happy I made the switch!

{Having said all of this, I could have missed it, but I’ve never seen a debate about moving to Blogger from WordPress…have you?}

    I’m going to be moving my blog over to WordPress in the next week. I’m super nervous about it, but your words that you’re happy you did it make me feel a little bit better. :)

    • Courtney, it will be a little chaotic for a while but you’ll work through it and in the end you’ll be happy you made the move. Are you moving it yourself? Let me know how you make out.

    I am still debating the move. I am scared to do it myself though. I am afraid I will mess it up and lose everything.

    Hi, I have a wordpress blog and enjoyed this post. I signed up for the A to Z challenge for the first time and was looking for someone who has wordpress. Can you help me, or should I consult Kathryn, whom you mentioned? I cannot figure out how to add the badge to my blog. I saw that you have one-and with words above it. Impressive! How’d you do it?
    I would appreciate your help and might check out Kathryn’s blog. Thanks.

  4. I have two blogs, one in blogger and one in wordpress and I have got to tell you that you are doing the right move :) both my blogs are active but I just love my wordpress.org blog because there are lots of thing I can do with it! And it’s pretty easy too. At first you would think blogger is easier than wordpress but the fact is wordpress is much simpler and easier, they have lots of free plugin that you don’t need to master coding to modify your blog :)

    • Hi Rina, After I got over the initial ‘shock’ of the move I really started getting into the WordPress blog. I noticed right away how easy and simple it was and like you, I love the plug-ins!
