Our trip to the local Farmer’s Market

I love this time of year, our local farmer’s market, which up until a couple of weeks ago had a bit of local produce is now bursting at the seams with fresh beans, carrots, potatoes, garlic, radishes, onions, cucumbers, lettuces and the list goes on!

Our market also carries organic meats, seafood, locally produced maple syrup and honey, ethnic foods, flowers, lots of crafts, baking and coffee.  {Let’s face it, when you’re at the market at the crack of dawn you need lots & lots of coffee!!}

In addition to all the wonderful items available for purchase, our market also offers a full breakfast.  You order your meal at a little window and find a seat in the big dining room.  The room has several long tables and you just cozy up and start chatting with whomever happens to be sitting next to an empty chair.  It’s quite an experience and people line up 30 and 40 deep, waiting to get their breakfast.

On this past Sunday, our dinner came exclusively from the market – salmon & haddock, new potatoes, green and yellow beans and new carrots…it was so delicious.  I had every intention of snapping a couple of photos of the dinner, but I was so caught up in the “experience” I completely forgot until it was too late!

Every week there is also live entertainment, most often its musical, everybody from seasoned pros to the kids next door.  A couple of times there were children’s entertainers and once I saw a couple of ladies working with a group of visiting children on a simple little craft.

It’s an awesome experience, if you have never been to such a market I urge you to go, you won’t be disappointed!

That sound like a lot of fun. Our local farmer’s markets do not have any entertainment . but the food is good

  2. We have a small one here on Friday night which is great as I usually pop in after work and pick up fresh veggies. We have 2 big ones here on Sat mornings too ~ I was going to go this morning but was lazy instead! Love supporting the local farmers for sure.

    • How lucky that you have such great options Lori, that would be so nice to be able to pop in on Friday evening and if you missed that trip you could go on Saturday. I love supporting the local farmers as well and everything always tastes so much fresher!!

  3. I strongly think I’ll be setting up our table at that farmer’s market next year. Then I can spend the money I make on all those wonderful fresh veggies, and great food.

  4. This looks awesome! I wish we had farmers’ markets down here. Of course, there are no farms, so it’s a bit of a problem :) Enjoy!

  5. Can’t wait til next Saturday. We will have company visiting from the US and I want to “show off” some of the great markets we have in this part of the country!!! Actually it is also an excuse to get some of the fresh veggies and of course morning coffee!!!!
    Great collage, Monica!

  6. I just love the farmer’s market. My favorite thing to buy is a big bag of unshelled peas. It reminds me of picking them out of my Mom’s garden. And they have pickled carrots and all kinds of goodies!

August 13- I have an idea of how much you enjoy your Farmer’s market. For years, we had to go for an hour’s drive to reach one so did not go often, although I really loved the products, the smells, the goodies one could eat there!
Now we have one in our small City and I have been there but not as much as I could and should go. Their vegetables are fresh and cheaper than the stores. The ‘goodies’ like baking, pancakes, fudge and icecream sing their siren song to me.
I will try to go oftener because, when I am there, I absolutely love it.-el03ro

    • I love that Elva, “…sing their siren song to me”, I’m loke that too!! Isn’t it amazing how much better everything tastes when it comes fresh from a local market? Ours is only about 15 minutes away, so it’s not a long trip. can’t wait for this Saturday, going to pick up some more pickling items, salmon and veges :)

This looks like a great Market. I’ve never been there. I like the Fredricton Market, and I love the Marche Moncton Market. It’s my favourite. Maybe someday I will go to “yours”.

Our Saturday suppers always consisted of yummy things brought home from market.

    • Nicol, I LOVE the Fredericton market but haven’t been there this year, I’ve never been to the Marche Moncton Market, I bet it’s awesome.
I agree, everything bought fresh at the market always tastes so yummy!!
