Even though we are still in the first week of August, for many families, back to school shopping is already well under way and at the top of many lists is a new computer.
When you purchase your next computer, consider buying a laptop –
When plugged in your laptop uses 50 percent less energy than a typical desktop computer and a whooping 99 percent less when running on battery power!! That’s a HUGE energy saving!!
{I had originally posted this tip in February 2011, but felt it would be a timely reminder}
I LOVE LAPTOPS. In fact, I was talking to my Dad just last night and I think he’s converted. He has power serges all the time and is constantly blowing “cards” on is “boat anchor” (a.k.a. Desktop).

Sarah, that’s great that you may have converted your dad! I laughed when you called his desktop a “boat anchor”, that’s what we call our old 36″ television…it takes for grown men to lift it!!
August 4-I had no idea that Laptops used such a lower amount of power than desktops.
Thank you for this information for those of us who try to be as ‘green’ as possible.-el03ro
You’re very welcome Elva, I too was shocked when I first read the statistics!
Good to know. For me I just really prefer the flexibility of a laptop. I don’t like to be tied down :)
I love the flexibility too Deborah, it’s a win-win situation!
I’ve had my laptop a year and a half now. My desktop crashed right after I had surgery in 2011 and my husband surprised me with a laptop and now I would not even give a thought to going back to a desktop! LOL I LOVE MY LAPTOP!
I know how you feel Sandra, I love the flexibility of a laptop and the fact that it is “greener” is a great bonus!
I love the flexibility too Deborah, it’s a win-win situation!
I really want to buy a laptop when I can afford it because then I shall be more mobile. The fact that it is greener is a wonderful plus
It is wonderful to have the mobility Jo-Ann and I agree, being greener is a great bonus!
Whoa! That is a HUGE energy savings!!! I have a laptop and a desktop. Wondering if it’s time to get rid of the desktop…
I know Brandi, isn’t that amazing. Before I did the research for this I had no idea what an energy drain the desktop was and I was shocked at the findings!
