“Taste of Home Cooking School Cookbook”

I could easily live with only one television channel (OK, two channels) , the Food Network, (and HGTV ) and anyone who knows me even a little can attest to my great love of recipes, cooking, baking and entertaining.   I love talking about these things, as well as comparing recipes and cooking techniques; I’m always surrounded by cookbooks and read them like most people would read a novel!

I was obviously very excited when I was when given the opportunity to review the,  Taste of Home Cooking School Cookbook. I had heard many great things about this book and I was happily anticipating it’s arrival so I could start cooking!

In case you’re not familiar with this book, the Taste Of Home Cooking School is America’s  leading Cooking School program.  They inspire more than 300,000 consumers each year at 300 events across the country.  Their professional culinary specialists demonstrate recipes, cooking methods, practical kitchen tips and plating techniques.  For those of us not able to make it to one of the fabulous classes, they have compiled all of the information and created the, Taste of Home Cooking School Cookbook, so we too can cook like a pro!

Whether you’re a beginning cook or a seasoned professional you are able to follow along as each chapter builds from simple recipe choices to spectacular gourmet fare.   I have tried many, many of the recipes in this book, and without exception, have LOVED them all!

Here is a sample of just some of the recipes I made from the, tasteofhome Cooking School Cookbook:

Blueberry Oatmeal Muffins

I’m a self proclaimed muffinaholic and I loved these!  They were super easy to make, tasted delicious and are nutritious to boot!

Hot Bacon Asparagus Salad

This was soooo….good!!  We had it for lunch but it would also work well for dinner, as is, or add a side of fish or chicken.

Berry Delicious Rhubarb Crisp

We had this for dessert one night and I served it warm, with a scoop of french vanilla ice-cream…can you say YUMMY!

 Vegetarian Burgers

I’m not much of a beef eater and this being barbecue season this recipe quickly became a favourite of mine.  This one is topped with cheese, tzatziki sauce and a slice of tomato…delicious! {I was a bit short on regular onions the day I made this batch and I substituted green onions for half of the onions called for in the recipe.}

This wonderful cookbook is full of colourful photos, step-by-step demonstrations, tips, secrets and useful entertaining ideas.  A must have for every kitchen library!

These recipes all sound delicious. Was the vegetarian burger just the onions, and tomato or was there a soy protein mixture involved?

  2. Jo-Ann, the recipe also called for sunflower kernels, chickpeas, carrots and whole wheat flour…yummy :)

  3. The Hot Bacon Asparagus Salad looks amazing! I never would have thought of that combination, but then I guess that’s why I’m not writing cookbooks. :)

  4. MMMMmm! This sounds like a great cook book and judging by those recipes you tried, they look delicious! The vegetarian burgers look good too and I know a couple people who would love those!

I love cooking and I love cookbooks. It’s so easy to go online these days and find whatever recipe you can dream of but there is just something about an actual cook book that just can’t be beat. The worn pages with spots of food on them, the personal notes you make as you perfect the recipe…

Oh those pictures are making me hungry! I had a chance to review this cookbook and I’m still trying new recipes from it, it’s absolutely awesome and one of my go to cookbooks now when looking for something unique, especially their “Better Than Takeout,” section! :)
