“Marion and Shiva Stone are twin brothers born of a secret union between a beautiful Indian nun and a brash British surgeon. Orphaned by their mother’s death and their father’s disappearance, bound together by a preternatural connection and a shared fascination with medicine, the twins come of age as Ethiopia hovers on the brink of revolution.
Moving from Addis Ababa to New York City and back again, Cutting for Stone is an unforgettable story of love and betrayal, medicine and ordinary miracles—and two brothers whose fates are forever intertwined.” {Goodreads}
Cutting for Stone, our book club’s choice for November has received rave reviews but I have to be honest, I’m having a bit of a difficult time with it. As a former OR nurse I’m finding the Operating Room scenes quite fascinating but I’m really struggling with the rest of the “story”. I’m only on page 179 of 667 and our meeting is in less than 2 weeks. Time to read more and blog less!!
Have you read it?
What did you think?
*UPDATE- (November 30, 2013) – I did have a bit of a hard time getting into this book, but, boy was it worth the struggle! This is one of those books that will play over and over again in your mind. Loved it and would highly recommend this book!
I too, had adifficult time getting into it. But when I finally did, I liked it. However, I downloaded it from a friends, book list and the book ‘cut off’ before the actual end of the story, so I don’t know how it really ends. :-( I’m hoping someone had a real ‘paper’ copy for me to borrow to finish it up.
