Have you heard of the postal service, epost? It is taking the country by storm and is very quickly becoming the gold standard for business mail delivery. Launched in 2000, epost was the first and is the largest bill consolidator in Canada. Today, it is a personal, digital mailbox for over 7.5 million subscribers, offering 250 bills and statements from over a 100 mailers in a safe and secure way. And best of all, it”s completely free!
It’s hard to believe now, but there was a time, and it was not that long ago, when the only way to pay a bill was:
- In person with cash.
- By mail or in person with a cheque or money order.
(A trip to the post office for stamps and to mail your bill payments can now be a thing of the past!)
(No more worrying about the post office operating hours!)
Then the world was changed forever with the advent of debit cards and worldwide credit cards such as; Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and others. In much the same way, ePost has revolutionized the business world. I can definitely see, that in the not to distant future, all business correspondence arriving to most households will be via ePost. You receive, manage and store your bills, statements, pay stubs and notices all in one place. Simple, concise and easy!
What is an epost Digital Mailbox?
An epost Digital Mailbox is the location in which you can receive your bills and essential documents from companies you do business with. There are over 100 companies offering document delivery to the epost service. As the trusted provider of Canadian’ mail, Canadians’ Post is committed to ensuring the security and privacy of your epost Digital Mail.
It is simple to set up your account. You simply go the Canada Post digital mailbox, select “sign up” on the right side of the screen and choose a:
- Username
- Password
- Confirm Password
- Email Address
- Postal/Zip Code
…and that’s it, you are signed up, it is that easy!
Your secure digital mailbox provides you with:
- Email or texts when new mail arrives
- Organized file folders
- 7 years free storage
- Reduced paper clutter
- And much, much more
epost, is the perfect option for those who travel. You no longer have to organize the complicated process of having family or friends pick up your business mail, open it or send it to you. No more having to worry about receiving and remitting payment for the phone, hydro, cable and other monthly expenses by “the deadline” while you are away from home. You simply log into your ePost account and electronically submit your payment…it is as simple and as easy as that!
Adding your “Mailers”:
After signing up, your next step is to find your “Mailers”. epost has partnered with over 100 companies, referred to as “Mailers” from all across Canada to send your bills and statements through the epost digital mailbox. I have already signed up my NBPower, Rogers and Bell Aliant accounts and it is very easy.
All you need to do is:
- Make sure to have your paper bills ready so that you can easily access your billing information.
- If you are not already, sign into your epost account.
- Select “Add a NEW Bill/Statement” or select “Subscribe” from one of the mailers in your area, listed in your Inbox.
- Once you have made your selection, you will be prompted to fill in your bill or statement information.
You can also add a Mailer by clicking Subscribe within a Subscription Offer.
If you want to add a business, but is not already on the list, Canada Post is adding new Mailers all the time. You can suggest one you would like to see in epost. For instance, I was hoping to add my Sears account. It wasn’t on the list, so I sent a request to have it added.
Another huge advantage for our family is that epost is definitely a greener choice. Just look at all the wasted paper and potential trees in this recycling container. No more tossing reams of paper in the recycling, which is better than throwing it in the garbage but, even recycling carries an environmental impact. Everything we can do to lesson the consequences is vital to our planet’s future.
(Reams of mail destined for the recycling bin)
Some of the other features I love about epost are the:
epost Vault:
The epost Vault is a high-security, online safe deposit box within epost where you can store all your important documents, photos and videos. The difference between epost Vault and a physical vault at your bank is that you can securely share the keys with anyone you want, when you want. (I literally have tens of thousands of photos on my computer and I will definitely be moving them to the epost Vault)
Personal folders:
Personal folders are created by users to store and organize the mail they receive within the Digital Mailboxes. Create personal folders in your Mailbox, by clicking on the “Filing Cabinet” icon; select “Add a Folder”, provide a folder name then click Add. Folder names can be a maximum of 20 characters in length.
(Here is my Rogers folder, for storing everything related to my Rogers cable subscription)
epost Newstand:
The epost Newsstand is an online digital publication service which provides access to thousands of titles. The Newsstand service is provided through a 3rd party service, zinio, and separate username and password is required to make a purchase. You can access the epost Newsstand by clicking on the Newsstand tab in the epost Digital Mailbox.
Let’s face it, most of us now live in a very fast paced, multi-tasking, high stress world and proper time management is of the essence. After all, we want to accomplish mundane tasks, such as paying bills, as quickly as possible. Then, we can spend more of our valuable time with family, friends and participating in activities that are important to us!
Having all of your bills and business correspondence easily accessible, organized and in one place is vital for time management.
Now you can enjoy all-in-one-place convenience for bills and statements like cable, phone, utilities, credit cards, property taxes and more with a single Log in. Store your bills and statements electronically for up to seven years. View them any time, from anywhere, online.
One place. One login. One password.
Be sure to check out my Google + album for lots more epost information!
Although I have been paying most if not all my bills electronically for a few years, having a place to consolidate all these payments etc., would sure be nice. Will have to give this some serious thought!! Thanks for the “e” update!!
Thanks for the reminder. I made an account for epost but never got back to setting up all my bills. I hate paper clutter.
I’m one of those people that actually like having paper bills, it’s a physical reminder for me that I need to take care of them. but I get how others like the paperless route
I’m so on the fence about this system. I already have accounts for all my bills online with the actual companies and I bank online, so while I think this is a great system, I can’t see how it would be easier than what I actually do right now. Will have to read up on it further!
I think this is a great alternative for anyone who doesn’t do online banking. I have all my bills set up through my bank to come out as money goes in, so I don’t pay anything. It’s easier with my husband’s brain injury. But I can see how this would be fast, easy and a great solution for others :)
Cool program! I love seeing mail in my mailbox though!
Well I think this could be useful for me. I know I need to check it out. I am sure it would be better than what Rogers has going on that drives me nuts. Those ebills never show up in my in box and then I get calls that I haven’t paid the bill. Oh and a fee for a paper bill makes me insane. I am not paying Rogers to bill me. That is insanity. So this sounds preferable to that for sure.
I need this!!!!
My husband handles the bills, he likes the paper bills as he is pretty old school. For me I prefer online I think it is funner lol and easier.
What a convenient option! I love how accessible everything is and how there are so many options for customers.
