A couple of evenings ago we had unexpected guests drop in for a visit. Does this every happen to you? Anyway, as I was hanging up coats, I was searching my brain, trying to think of something we could have with a glass of wine.
Then I remembered that in the freezer, I had a loaf of PC® artisan bread as well as a box of President’s Choice® PEI Mussels in Creamy White Wine Sauce. Problem solved!
I grabbed the bread and mussels from the freezer and headed to the kitchen as my hubby poured us each a glass of wine.
In no time at all, less than 15 minutes from start to finish, we had a delicious appetizer of PEI Mussels in Creamy White Wine Sauce with slices of crusty bread to snack on.
This is all I needed to do. I heated the oven to 400 degrees F., removed the bread from the wrapper and slid it in the oven for about 8 minutes.
Meanwhile, I threw a large pan on the stove and opened up the box of mussels in cream sauce. All I needed to do was empty the contents of each bag (there are two) into the pan and put on a tight-fitting lid. I heated the mussels, covered, over medium heat for 8 – 10 minutes. (Which is longer than directed on the package, however, the instructions were for one bag and I had two) Be sure to discard any mussels that do not open.
Then, I poured the delicious looking and smelling mussels into a couple bowls and sliced the artisan loaf. The bread is perfect for getting all the juices from the bottom of the bowl. I put everything on the kitchen island and sat down to enjoy some time with my family!
These fully cooked PEI mussels are packed in a convenient ready-to-heat pouch with a white wine, garlic and herb sauce. Each pouch makes the perfect entrée for one or a shared appetizer for two.
These mussels in wine sauce would also be delicious served over linguine…YUM!
Are there any entertaining staples that you keep in your pantry or freezer?
Do you always have something on hand that you can grab at the last-minute in the event of unexpected guests?
