A couple of weekends ago, I had the opportunity to attend the Neely G Festival of Music in Long Creek, N.B..
This was the festival’s inaugural year, so I was expecting a few small glitches in organizing such a massive endeavour, but that was far from the case.
The festival was held at the newly built R10 Venue located near Sussex, N.B. and is an easy drive from New Brunswick’s major cities of Saint John, Moncton and Fredericton.
The site itself is nestled in a rural setting with easy access to the four stages the festival featured. There were on site vendors providing all the food, drink and memorabilia to make your stay more enjoyable. There wasn’t on site tenting this year, however, there will be that option in 2016.
The sound systems for all the venues was fantastic and the main stage sound, lights, video system, and two huge stage flanking screens, were in a word, amazing!
Neely G presented acts from across Canada in many musical genres. There truly was something there for all tastes.
The 2015 lineup included…
BACKYARD DEVILS, CHRIS CULGIN, CYRIL MACPHEE, DOUG MCARTHUR, DURHAM COUNTY POETS, ENNIS, FREE TO GROW, IAN FOSTER, JAMES KEELAGHAN, JIM DORIE, MARSHALL DANE, MIKE BIGGAR, MIMI O’BONSAWIN, RPR, SONA, STEPHEN FEARING, THOM SWIFT, TOMATO TOMATO, WES JAGOE, JARED LUTES and WIND BROKEN STONES.
The organizers deserve a huge thank-you for their efforts. Not only for bringing the festival and its fabulous acts for all to enjoy, but also for building such a premier venue in the province of New Brunswick.
For lovers of authentic music, this festival is a must. Do yourself a favour and put the Neely G Festival of Music on your calendar for next summer.
