I can pretty well guarantee that there is not one adult person in North America (or worldwide) that hasn’t been affected by cancer in one way or another.
I have. My sister battled breast cancer and won, I am thrilled to say she is now more than five years cancer free. Sadly, a happy outcome is not always the case. My brother-in-law, my husband’s only sibling, died of cancer on the night of his 46th birthday.
I have also lost grandparents, aunts, uncles, co-workers, and friends to this devastating illness.
As a nurse, I have also seen cancer from the treatment side and have first-hand knowledge of it’s disastrous effects on both the cancer patient and on their families.
Many of us know someone who has lost their hair as part of their cancer treatment. So by shaving your head (you can do it actually or virtually), you show your support for thousands of Canadian cancer patients and their treatment journey.
Participating in the #NoHairSelfie is a way of standing alongside those that are fighting cancer so they don’t have to stand alone. At the same time, you are raising cancer awareness as well as funds for cancer research.
On February 4th, World Cancer Day, people across the globe are coming together to show support for cancer research.
This video (below) will help explain how YOU can be a part of this incredible global movement!
If you’re ready to shave your head, click on this link to register in your country! If you’re not quite ready to make such a bold statement, it’s no worries. You can dare a friend or family member to buzz their hair.
