Earth Hour 2016 is March 19th, 8:30 – 9:30 PM (Your local time)
Earth Hour 2016 ~ Climate change is the biggest environmental threat to our planet and a huge concern for many of us. In Canada, where I live, we are already seeing its impacts, particularly on our Arctic and our oceans.
Participating in Earth Hour is a simple way to show that you want to be a part of the solution and it sends a powerful message that together we can make a difference.
If you wish, you can follow the link and grab your own custom-made Earth Hour profile picture to show your friends you care.
This is what mine looks like.
For the past several years our family has participated in this event. We don’t do anything drastic, but we do shut down all power for that one hour. We light some candles, maybe pour a glass of wine, have some munchies and spend the time talking or playing a game.
Earth Hour is a symbolic gesture to raise awareness of what we all need to do to make sure our planet will still be a viable option for families in the centuries or millennia to come.
EARTH HOUR IS A GLOBAL ENVIRONMENTAL MOVEMENT BY WWF.
The WWF is the parent organisation of Earth Hour and started it with teams and partners in Sydney, Australia back in 2007.
Earth Hour belongs to you. Celebrate your commitment to the planet with your friends, family, community or at work – in your own way.
There are already hundreds and hundreds of events on the Earth Hour Tracker! From a lights-out event at the Niagara Falls to the World’s Largest Candlelit dinner in Finland, there’s bound to be an event for you. Join an event closest to you, or set up your own! Big or small, don’t forget to register your event at Earth Hour Tracker.
A simple event can be just turning off all non-essential lights from 8.30pm-9:30 pm.
For one hour, focus on your commitment to our planet for the rest of this year. To celebrate, you can have a candle lit dinner, talk to your neighbours, stargaze, go camping, play board games, have a concert, screen an environmental documentary post the hour, create or join a community event – the possibilities are endless.
