We Have Been Given A Gift Of Time

Time

Did you know that we have been given a gift of time?

In case you thought it was just your imagination, it’s not. If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, summer is considerably longer than winter.

It’s true. I know, in the dead of winter it doesn’t always seem that way, but…take this year, for example, summer is almost a full five days longer than winter.

And the really good news for all of us warm weather worshippers? Winter is getting shorter by one half-minute per year and will continue to do so until the year 3500. Unfortunately for me, that’s well past my expiry date!

I know right now, you’re probably asking yourself, but how can that be?

I’m not sure about you, but I always thought the seasons of the year were divided equally, but then again maybe I dreamt that? {Most likely when I dozed off one day in high school Science class, many years ago!}

It seems the main reason for the uneven distribution of the seasons has to do with the Earth’s orbit around the Sun not being circular, and maybe some other things that I don’t quite understand, but regardless, I certainly like the result!

Just imagine what can be done with this “new found” bonanza of warm weather time:

  • That’s almost an extra full week at the cottage this summer!
  • Five more days of boating, beaches and bar-b-que’s, and all the other outdoor activities that I love.
  • And gardening? We’ll have flowers and vegetables never before even planted in these parts.
  • Maybe I’ll go on a trip. I could add this “new time” to my regular holidays and go somewhere far away and slightly exotic. I have always fancied a trip to Tuscany. I pictured myself leisurely exploring the Italian wine country in spring, but if this new time is only available in summer, well, I can make that work too.

Now, if I can just convince the boss to give me this “new week” off.

Shhhh…we had better book it now before everyone else finds out!
