A Visit to the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market

Halifax Seaport Farmers' Market

A couple of weekends ago, we decided a little trip was in order and went to Halifax, Nova Scotia. Halifax is about a 3.5-hour drive from where we live. In addition to spending some time relaxing and taking in the Saltscape Expo, which was happening that weekend, we also wanted to visit the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market.

We had heard lots of good things about this market so got up early on Saturday morning to pay it a visit.

If you’re not familiar with it, the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market was created by Royal Proclamation in June of 1750, a year after the founding of Halifax. So, as you can see, it’s been around for a long, long time…266 years!

Located at the south end of the waterfront and extending from Piers 19 to 23, the Halifax seaport has a vibrant arts and cultural presence.  You will find artisans, retailers, cruise terminals, event facilities, cafés, galleries, offices, a museum, a university and of course, the Halifax Seaport Farmers Market.

There was lively music to wake you up and get you into the mood for the market experience!

From the second we stepped in the door I was enthralled. The sights, the sounds, and the delicious aromas were all very enticing. However, first things first, before venturing headlong into the fun, I needed a big cup of coffee!

If you are ever in the downtown Halifax area, either during the week, but especially on the weekend, make it a point to drop by the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market. It is a not to be missed experience!
