Follow Along As We Check Out Our New Leesa Mattress

A few years ago we bought a new mattress for our master bedroom bed. The old one had been kicking around for… well, I don’t know how many years!  It was still in pretty good shape though, so we upgraded the twin bed in our guest room with our old double mattress.

Well, that was six or seven years ago now and our guest room bed is now in desperate need of a new mattress. I know this because occasionally if I am having trouble sleeping I will move to the guest room. That way I can read and go online without disturbing my hubby…who never has any trouble getting to sleep!

After much research and searching online in the wee hours of the morning…lol…we decided to try out a Leesa mattress.  I had read hundreds of reviews and so many people had such good things to say about this unique and a bit unconventional mattress, that I knew we had to give it a try.

The Leesa Story:

Like so many people, the entrepreneurs behind Leesa had trouble sleeping. Like many of us have done, they had also bought beds offering all sorts of benefits, from coils to memory foam, but nothing really worked.

They approached a friend and long-time industry veteran and asked, “If you could redesign the mattress and reinvent the sleep experience, what would you do?” His response was “I’d simplify it and take out all the “stuff” we’ve been adding for years to justify higher prices.”

From this idea, Leesa was born.

The Leesa mattress is a completely redesigned mattress offering what they call a Universal Adaptive Feel™ that adapts to all body shapes and sizes and all sleeping styles. This is particularly useful for couples as each side adapts differently to each partner.

They have also put a lot of time and effort into selecting the combination of materials used inside a Leesa. Each layer of foam is carefully selected to provide core strength, memory foam pressure relief as well as cooling and bounce.

A look at the extraordinary number of 5-star reviews confirms that customers consistently report a better sleep experience.

The Online Store:

The online store is very simple to navigate and has been designed with the same eye to simplicity as the mattress. It literally took me less than five minutes to order my mattress.

Leesa mattresses are compressed, boxed and shipped for convenience to your home. It sounds crazy, but it works, and they say the compression process actually improves the life of the mattress.

The mattress is beautifully crafted and designed with a feel that meets the needs of all sleepers. And, because Leesa mattresses are only available online, they wanted to make the purchase 100% risk-free with –

  • Free shipping on all orders
  • 100-night risk-free trial backed by a no-hassle, full refund policy. (Customers have 100 nights to sleep on it.  If they don’t like it, Leesa will arrange to pick up the mattress and donate it and 100% of the purchase price to a local charity.)
  • The mattresses are completely non-toxic
  • Built to order and shipped in 3 to 5 business days

Setup is easy. Your Leesa mattress comes compressed, rolled and boxed.

Move the box or bedroll into the room where you intend to setup. It’s much easier to maneuver at this point.

Position the bedroll on your stable base and begin to tear away the plastic.

The mattress will immediately start to take shape and before you know it, you’ll find yourself gazing down at your brand new, ready-for-sleep Leesa mattress.

For detailed step-by-step instructions, read the How-To FAQ or you can refer to the step-by-step setup guide that arrives with your Leesa.

My Experience:

Ordering –

  • The ordering is as simple as can be and like I mentioned earlier, it took maybe five minutes.
  • I was then emailed a confirmation number and told it would take 3-5 days to build, compress and box my Leesa mattress.
  • Five days later I was emailed a UPS tracking number and a link to track my shipment.
  • Four days later my mattress arrived.

The box looks a little worse for the wear but was fully intact and my mattress was totally unscathed!

Set Up –

My husband and I set the bed up and it took maybe 20 minutes from start to finish. We just followed the instructions on the box, it was all very simple.

We took the box (which is fairly heavy) to the guest room where we would be unboxing it and carefully opened the box being sure not to damage the mattress.

We then placed the box on its side and pulled out the mattress.

Then we positioned our rolled up Leesa on the box spring (after checking to make sure the box spring was in good condition). You could also use any solid or slatted foundation to support the mattress or even the floor. Then we removed the outer plastic wrap.

We then unrolled and unfolded the mattress and tore away the inner plastic wrap. We immediately noticed and you can see in the photo that the Leesa had already started to expand.

Don’t send the plastic or the box to the landfill. We just rolled up the plastic and recycled it and the cardboard box that the mattress came in.

It may take up to an hour for your Leesa to fully expand and a few days to fully firm up. The company also says that any slight odour will dissipate shortly after setup, but other than the smell of the plastic I noticed no odour at all.

The mattress after a couple days.

All setup and ready for our first guest, which will actually be our son who will soon be coming home for a couple of weeks.

Sleeping –

Although we set up the mattress in the guest room, I made a point of sleeping in there for several nights so I could thoroughly test out the Leesa mattress.

I felt I was sleeping on a cloud. It was soft but at the same time, supportive. We have had a bit of a heat wave and I thought I may find the mattress hot, but it wasn’t at all. In fact, the mattress actually felt somewhat cool. I think this was because of the 2″ top layer of the mattress that allows for airflow.

I got a really good sleep on this mattress and I am definitely regretting getting it for our guest room and not the master bedroom!

Giving Back:

Besides their fabulous mattress, what I feel really sets Leesa apart as a company, is their industry leading social impact program.  I love that they actually measure their success not only in dollars and cents but by looking at their impact on the world!

The Giving Back program has 3 separate initiatives:

  1. ONE-TEN – Leesa donates custom-made mattresses to organizations that serve homeless and at-risk men, women and children at every stage of their transition to better lives.
  2. ONE-EARTH – Leesa partners with the Arbor Day Foundation to plant one tree for every mattress they sell. While many environmental initiatives take years or even decades to show results, planting trees is direct, effective, and immediate. Leesa has partnered with Arbor Day Foundation to plant one million trees by 2025.
  3. ONE-COMMUNITY – Leesa participates in numerous local community events and initiatives. Staff are given time off to help at local food banks and shelters. They also support local charities.

I so respect the Giving-Back initiative which is a deep-rooted program that is the heart and soul of their company.

Next time you are in the market for a new mattress you should definitely consider purchasing a Leesa. They offer beautifully designed and crafted mattresses that meet the needs of almost everyone.

The online store makes buying your mattress simple, the free shipping and 100-night risk-free trial make the entire process worry free.

You can’t get any easier or more convenient than that!
