May 1-31 marks the Canadian Women’s Foundation’s annual Campaign To End Violence.
As the only national foundation in Canada, the Canadian Women’s Foundation is dedicated to giving women and girls a chance for a better life. They specialize in helping women move out of violence, out of poverty, and into confidence and leadership.
The Canadian Women’s Foundation’s Campaign to End Violence is an initiative to raise awareness and funds for more than 450 emergency shelters and violence prevention programs across Canada. The goal is to break the cycle of violence — for good!

Facts about violence against women:
- 67% of Canadians say they know at least one woman who has experienced physical or sexual abuse.
- Half of all women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16.
- On any given night in Canada, nearly 3,500 women and more than 2,500 children sleep in shelters because it isn’t safe at home.
- Approximately every six days, a woman is killed by her intimate partner. Of the 83 police-reported intimate partner homicides in 2014, 67 of the victims — over 80% — were women.
- Only one in three Canadians have a full understanding of sexual consent (that both positive verbal or behavioural consent, and ongoing affirmation are required).
I hope you will join us on May 3, 2017, to find out more about this program.
