There’s Still Time To Go Camping {w/ Checklist}

When our kids were little, Music Man and I always took them camping a few times every summer. Back in those days we pitched a tent and slept in sleeping bags on the floor.

Our luxury item was “bubble pads”, think bubble wrap in a large sheet, but there were no air mattresses like we have now.  We have lots of great memories (and some not so great…but we laugh at them now!) from those early days of camping.

It’s not too late to enjoy some time in the great outdoors! As a matter of fact, my sisters and I are camping (maybe a little bit of glamping) this week.

For the past ten years or so we have gone on a “sisters” camping trip to a nearby provincial park. Sometimes our grown daughters will join us for a night or two, but it is definitely a “girls only” trip.

This is where we stayed last year. The shelter is basically a 14′ x 14′ wood frame covered in a heavy-duty tarp. A couple of years ago they ran electricity to the shelters, but that is the only “luxury”. There is no indoor plumbing, no water and the showers and toilets are a seven or eight-minute walk up a path.

But that’s okay, because all this beauty (below) is just a minute or two away from our site.

This camping/glamping trip is something we look forward to each summer and I love so many things about it.

We sit around a campfire in the evenings and talk about everything from what we will have for breakfast to how we will change the world.  We have no schedule, eat leisurely meals when we’re hungry, go to sleep to the sound of crashing waves when we’re tired and get up when we feel rested.

When weather permits we spend our days walking the beach or hiking nearby trails. If the weather doesn’t cooperate; we read, talk, drink wine (okay, we drink wine sun or rain), play Scrabble and Yahtzee.

These are some of the most relaxing few days of the year and can barely wait to go!

But before I do I thought I want to share my camping checklist with you. This checklist covers all the basics, whether you are camping or glamping. (If you’re glamping, like we are, you won’t need everything on this list.)

So tell me, are you a back country camper or more of a glamper?

Where are your favourite places to camp or glamp?

    Oh, I just can’t wait….. seeing these pics of last year has renewed my zest for the “girls getaway”. Btw, the weather is looking favorable as well. I think this still classifies as camping as we still have a way to go to call anything about our time away as “glamorous”! LOL!
