5 Ingredient Cranberry Squares

Share/Bookmark

If you’re looking for a homemade square that tastes amazing but is simple to make, do I have a great recipe for you! These 5 Ingredient Cranberry Squares are not only easy to make, they are delicious!Cranberry Squares

This is a tried and true, old-fashioned recipe. You will most likely have most of the ingredients already in your pantry. The only thing you may not have is the cranberry sauce. I advise you to make your own cranberry sauce the night before or earlier in the day and then refrigerate to give it time to chill and thicken.

In a pinch, you can use a can of good quality, whole-berry prepared cranberry sauce. Just try to spoon out the part with the berries and leave any big clumps of jelly behind. Big clumps of jelly could cause areas of the squares to be soggy…and nobody likes a soggy square!

Simple to Make Cranberry Squares

Serves: 16
Ingredients
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 2 cups flour
  • dash of salt
  • 1 cup whole berry cranberry sauce {Preferably homemade, it’s easy to make - RECIPE)
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F
  2. Line an 8" x 8" baking pan with two 8" wide strips of parchment paper. Allowing the parchment to hang over the sides to easily remove the squares from the pan.
  3. Whisk together flour and salt.
  4. Combine sugar and butter, beat until creamy.
  5. Gradually beat flour mixture into sugar mixture.
  6. Press a little more than half of the mixture into prepared pan.
  7. Top with cranberry sauce.
  8. Crumble the other half of flour/sugar mixture over the top of the cranberries in a cobblestone-like pattern.
  9. Bake for approximately 25 -30 minutes or until golden.
  10. Cool completely, remove from the pan and cut into squares.
  11. Store covered in the refrigerator.
Notes
TIP - If like me, you seem to never have softened mutter on hand, just measure the amount of butter you need and grate it. It will then be soft enough to use!
