Will You be Watching the Royal Wedding?

Are you going to watch the royal wedding? It’s not going to be easy, but I plan to drag myself out of bed at 4AM and watch every minute!

It seems like a thousand years ago now, but I still vividly recall getting up in the wee hours of the morning to watch the elaborate wedding of Charles, Prince of Wales, and Lady Diana Spencer. Their wedding took place on Wednesday, July 29, 1981 at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.

Royal Wedding

The wedding of Charles and Diana was widely billed as a “fairytale wedding” and the “wedding of the century”.

I just looked up some figures on the internet (which, by the way, along with computers, did not even exist back then) and found out their wedding was watched by an estimated global TV audience of 750 million people!

Many years after “the wedding of the century”, my daughter and I crawled out of our cozy beds in the predawn hours. The reason…to watch Charles and Diana’s son, William, second in the line of succession to the British throne, marry his longtime girlfriend, Catherine Middleton, during a beautiful ceremony on April 29, 2011.

Royal Wedding

That morning, to get in the festive spirit and celebrate the royal wedding, we made an elaborate breakfast, complete with celebratory mimosas and settled in to watch every minute of William and Kate’s wedding.

Now, it’s all happening again. This Saturday, May 19, 2018, the wedding of Prince Henry of Wales, known as Prince Harry, the second son of Charles, Prince of Wales and Diana, Princess of Wales and Meghan Markle, an American actress will take place at Windsor Castle in England.

I plan to drag my tired body out of bed at 4 AM…okay, maybe it will be 4:30 or 5 AM, but I will be up early!  What can I say…I’m a romantic at heart and a big sap for weddings of all shapes and sizes.

From the arrival of the guests, to the ceremony, to the carriage ride around Windsor, I don’t want to miss a thing!

What about you? Did you watch Charles and Diana’s wedding or William and Kate’s?

Are you planning on watching Harry and Meghan’s wedding? Do you have any special activities planned…gathering with family/friends, wedding brunch complete with champagne, wearing a fancy fascinator or maybe even a tiara? Tell me all about it!
