Take the Self-Care Day Challenge — It’s time to take your health into your own hands!
Let’s face facts, many of us lead incredibly busy lives. We are all super busy at home, at work, being a parent, being a spouse, balancing family life, meeting up with friends, maintaining our homes and the list goods on and on.
We want to be everything to everyone and in doing so our own wellbeing is often ignored. That needs to change! In the long-term, to be of any help to others, it is incredibly important to occasionally take time for ourselves.
Lately, there has been a lot of talk about self-care. As our lives get busier, prioritizing self-care becomes increasingly important. Many of us think of self-care as practicing yoga, a day at the spa or even spending quality time with friends. While these are all great ways to relax, there is much more to it!
The concept of self-care is about empowering people, families and communities to practice healthy habits, prevent disease and cope with illness or disability to achieve optimum health. Taking better care of ourselves by utilizing the products available to us not only helps Canadians lead healthier lives, it also alleviates strain on our healthcare system! Making a commitment to practice self-care has so many benefits.
That’s why Bayer, a global health products leader, is working to educate consumers on how Better Self-Care for a Better Life can make a difference in quality of life while improving healthcare sustainability.
Here are a few ways I practice self-care:
- Sit on the deck, in the warm sunshine, with a favourite beverage. Just. Sit. (Don’t forget your sunscreen. I use Coppertone Sport Continuous Spray or Whipped Sunscreen)
- Spend some time getting lost in a good book. I find this a great way to decompress before going to sleep.
- Get a massage (Granted, most of us cannot do this every day or every week, but it can be a well-deserved, occasional treat.)
- Lie down on a blanket on a clear night and gaze at the stars.
- Spend time weeding the garden. Immensely satisfying! (I always have plenty of Claritin on hand to help manage my allergies when gardening.)
- Have an afternoon nap, even 20 minutes can be rejuvenating.
- Listen to music.
- Binge watch my latest Netflix series obsession…with no guilt!
- Spend time sitting on an ocean beach, watching the waves.
- Go for a walk on a local walking trail. (Try not to overdo it, but if you do, reach for the Aleve!)
In support of International Self-Care Day on July 24th, I challenge you to share your self-care practices with me. To help get you started, Bayer has created a DOWNLOADABLE SELF-CARE CALENDAR with one tip for each day of the month.
We will also be giving away ten $15 Amazon gift cards so you can buy your favourite self-care products! In celebration of Self-Care Day, Bayer is running a Buy 3 for $10 promotion through Amazon.ca on most of their brands. (Check out at the 3 for $10 promotion HERE. )

Self-care is so important, especially during the summer when the kids are home. I get up early every day to have an hour to myself before everyone else gets up, it makes a huge difference in my day and I always feel refreshed and renewed. I love the calendar, I’m saving it for ideas!
I love the calendar too, Laura, it has some great ideas!
So many women forget to take care of themselves. Self care is so important
I know, right! Women are the worst at self care.

I take care of myself by swimming an exercising in my pool. I use a lot of Coppertone sunscreen and Bayer extra strength aspirin to help the pain in my joints. Thanks for the opportunity.
