Old-Fashioned Lemon Bars (Only 5 Ingredients)

There’s often a very good reason for the longevity of some recipes. You know, the recipes your grandmother made, your mom made and now you make. The reason? The recipe is often easy to make and the resulting product always tastes...incredible! This is one of those recipes. It has only five simple ingredients, you don’t need any fancy equipment plus these Old-Fashioned Lemon Bars can be whipped up in no time at all. I recently took these to a family barbecue and my aunt told me, her mom … [Read more...]

42 of the Best Places to Stay in Canada {with Reviews}

Summer, in all its beautiful glory, has finally arrived!  Back in snowy, cold January, oh how I longed for these long, lazy days of summer. As well as a time for relaxing, summer is also a popular time for vacations. When we travel, be it by car or plane, we rarely fly by the seat of our pants, so to speak. I like to be organized, okay, okay...I can hear you all laughing...I’m a bit over the top with the organization, but at least I know it and I’m willing to admit it, unlike some people I … [Read more...]

Brookies ~ Part Brownie, Part Cookie

I heard about brookies a couple of years ago, but only recently tried making this fun combination of brownies and cookies. You can make brookies in cookie form or brownie form...I decided to try the brownie method.  I do admit, I am kind of hooked on brookies now, so I may try the cookie form soon...lol! What I did was use a premium brownie mix...*gasp*!!... I know, I know... a little bit of cheating but it worked like a charm and was so much easier than making both batters from … [Read more...]

Take Control of Your Heavy Menstrual Bleeding

Disclosure: I have partnered with YMC and Hologic and have received compensation for this post. All opinions are my own. As women, we all have menstrual cycles. These “periods” as they are commonly called, are a normal part of our body's way of preparing each month for a possible pregnancy. Many women breeze through their menstrual cycles.  Other than regularly changing pads or tampons, their period causes them little or no discomfort or inconvenience. They go about their daily lives as … [Read more...]

Saturday with the Twisted Sisters

I had a great day this past Saturday. Spent the morning with my Twisted Sisters and niece. My niece, I must add, is a saint for putting up with our endless chatter and weird ways. She happily chauffeured us all over the countryside and didn’t once complain about the three old ladies! We met bright and early for breakfast at a local diner. (8:30AM is bright and early, right?!)  I had the traditional breakfast fare of bacon, eggs, hash browns, toast and numerous cups of coffee. It was really … [Read more...]

8 Ways To Build Big Flavour With Turkey On The Grill {w/Recipe}

Disclosure: This post is sponsored in partnership with Canadian Turkey. As always, all opinions are our own. I love this time of the year. The temperatures are finally starting to warm up and the long, glorious days of summer will soon "officially" arrive. Some of my favourite things about late spring and summer are the laid-back vibe, daylight lasting until almost 10 PM and barbecuing! On busy days, your BBQ can be your best friend!  Cooking on the grill allows you to prepare multiple … [Read more...]

A Fun Day with My Sisters

I am fortunate to have always lived in relatively close proximity to my two sisters. They’re both older than I am by a few years (they’re going to want to kill me for saying that...but keep reading!) which I’m absolutely sure was a real pain for them when we were all younger and still living at home. You see, they were the two oldest of five kids and were often in charge of “babysitting” and “looking after” their three younger siblings. That included me. I was sandwiched between two brothers … [Read more...]

Easy to Make Lemon Squares

If you love the fresh tangy taste of lemon, these Lemon Squares are for you! They’re pretty easy to make, a little different from the norm and have an incredibly luscious lemon taste. I also love the intense contrast of flavours in these squares. You have the rich, creaminess of the sweetened condensed milk and sugar contrasted by lots of tangy lemon zest and fresh lemon juice. Plus, the crust has a denseness and crunch while the filling is a soft, velvety and pale yellow with specks of … [Read more...]

Manitoba Rescue In Desperate Need of Food for Evacuated Pets

Like many of you, we are huge animal lovers. I would easily go hungry myself before I would ever see an innocent animal suffer from hunger...or anything else! I am not sure if you are aware of this situation (I wasn’t until it was brought my attention by a like-minded soul). Manitoba rescue needs nearly 13,000 kg of food for pets in evacuated First Nations. At least 500 dogs and cats are in need of care in Little Grand Rapids and Pauingassi First Nations. Photo … [Read more...]

Camping Checklist with Free Printable

When our kids were little we always went on our first camping trip of the year on the Victoria Day weekend. Now when I say camping, I mean rustic tenting, the only luxury we had was a bubble pad under our sleeping bag! (Mind you, there was a frost warning this year, so not sure how that would have worked!) Our kids are older now, (and so are we...lol) so that tradition has sort of fallen by the wayside. Now when we camp it is usually in a “rustic shelter”, which is a bit of a cross … [Read more...]

Thumbprint Cookies

Thumbprint Cookies have been around for a long time and for good reason! Over the years, I remember seeing them at many “special” occasions. One of my sisters makes a very similar cookie and she would often have them for baby showers, wedding showers and included on a tray of Christmas goodies. These aren’t difficult to make, but they are a little bit time-consuming, however, the result is well worth the little bit of fiddling. Make sure you read through the recipe from … [Read more...]
