Buscopan® Helps Keep Your Tummy Happy!

If you know me well, you’ll know that I enjoy spending time with family, sharing food with friends and making wonderful memories with those I love. No matter the season, I always try to connect with the people who matter most to me. Unfortunately, that also means my schedule is often super busy! They're jammed packed with family reunions and gatherings with friends often accompanied by rich, delicious food – which can lead to stress and very often gastrointestinal issues such as abdominal … [Read more...]

How to Make Seafood Chowder

This Seafood Chowder is a once or twice a year delicious indulgence and has been a Christmas Eve tradition in our home for years! It may seem a little fussy to prepare, but it really isn’t. I find it easiest to chop and prepare everything earlier in the day, then cover and refrigerate any perishables. When the time comes to make the chowder, it’s basically a little assembly process. (Note - if you prepare the potatoes ahead of time, cover them with water to prevent discolouration and then … [Read more...]

Four Tips for Keeping Your New Year’s Resolutions

This post is sponsored by Bayer. To make sure these products are right for you, always read and follow the label. With the exception of the super cold weather, (It was minus 24 degrees Celsius here yesterday...not counting the wind chill, Brrrrr.....), I really don't mind January. This is the time of year for cozying up in front of a crackling fire or enjoying the warmth of a wood stove. Plus, a new year is a blank slate where you can write the next chapter of your life. There’s no time … [Read more...]

The Top 10 Recipes of 2017

Top 10 Recipes of 2017 - With the dawn of a new year, this is often the time when many of us look back on our accomplishments and missteps from the past twelve months. I always find this to be very therapeutic, because we all learn and grow from our past experiences. Bloggers like to do this too. It is fun for us to take a look at our blogging statistics from the previous year and take note of posts that have been popular or not so popular. Among other things, it is a great way to gauge … [Read more...]

Do You Prepare A Nativity Tray?

Christmas Eve is tomorrow...YIKES...and I want to share with you a tradition in our home. This Christmas Eve will be our sixteenth year to prepare a Nativity Tray, which is actually a medieval English custom. I first read about this custom in the book, Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach. I thought it was such a wonderful thing to do. To me, it epitomizes the spirit of, “goodwill toward men”. If you have the Simple Abundance book you can read all about the Nativity Tray on the … [Read more...]

Coconut Macaroons

Coconut Macaroons I can barely believe it is the middle of December. It just feels like a few days ago we were sitting out on our deck...the same deck that is now covered in snow! Leisurely reading on the deck has been replaced with frantic shopping, cleaning, and baking! While we are trying to somewhat “cut back” on the madness, we still want to celebrate Christmas and make it fun and memorable. One of the areas I have decided to pare down is baking as I don’t think we will be … [Read more...]

CBC’s Harbour Lights Campaign

Even though it’s December 15th...and I am relatively prepared for the upcoming holiday, it didn’t actually “feel” like Christmas until this morning! Leaving the Harbour Lights/CBC 2016 Christmas special Today in the pre-dawn hours I ventured out in the minus 12 degree cold and hit the road for the 30 minute drive to Saint John to meet my sister.  We then headed to the Saint John City Market for the annual CBC Saint John Harbour Lights show. All proceeds raised from this special event go … [Read more...]

Don’t Allow Bladder Leakage to Dictate Your Life!

Even though I know I am no longer 25 or even 35, sometimes when I look in a mirror, I am still shocked at the person looking back. I don’t feel “older”, but that darn mirror doesn’t lie! Boy oh boy, do I ever miss my 20’s and 30’s — these are the years when our bodies are the strongest, our senses are the keenest, and our minds are the sharpest. Even though I don't dwell on it, I do know gradual physical changes happen as we age. Our bones aren’t as strong as they once were, our hair thins … [Read more...]

A Homemade Hot Chocolate Tradition

For many of us, Christmas is a blend of past and present experiences. The sights, sounds, smells and memories of the season often trigger an avalanche of emotions that take you back to the Christmases of yesteryear. For some it’s the aroma of those special cookies baking, you know the recipe I mean, the one that’s been part of your holiday since childhood! For others, it may be the smell of freshly cut cedar or the careful unwrapping of that special ornament that has been in your family for … [Read more...]

Turkey Falafel Bites – Appetizer

One of my favourite times of the year, the Christmas holidays are quickly approaching.  It’s funny, but when I think about Christmas, my thoughts are never about gifts, either given or received. My memories always centre on things like family gatherings, seeing old friends, the smell of a delicious Christmas dinner cooking. The emotions a special ornament can evoke as you carefully remove it from storage and hold it gently in your hand for the first time since last season. These are the … [Read more...]
