Barbecued Ribs ~ Fall off the Bone Deliciousness

Share/Bookmark

Barbecued Ribs ~ I must confess, although we usually prepare them together, this is actually my husbands recipe.  He heard about the concept on a radio show and has been making them ever since.  They are so simple to prepare and the juicy meat literally falls off the bone.

Barbecued Ribs

Be certain you are using pork BACK ribs, NOT side ribs.  The way I remember that I need to get BACK ribs is to think this…”BACK is BETTER”.  I know, I’m a bit really weird, but that’s how I remember and maybe that will help you remember too!

We have made these many times and for numerous occasions.  They are actually just about the perfect meat to have if you are entertaining.  Why, you may ask?  Well, all the prep is done in advance and the only thing last-minute is to crisp up the ribs on the barbecue before serving.  You literally only need to char them a bit and it should take less than 10 minutes to finish all the ribs.

We most recently had these ribs just a couple of days ago and served them with barbecued chicken, potato salad, broccoli salad and a warm baguette…YUM!

Author: Randy & Monica
Recipe type: Dinner
Ingredients
  • 2 slabs of pork back ribs
  • Salt & Pepper
  • Barbecue Sauce {We used Maple, Brown Sugar & Bourbon but most any good sauce would work just fine,}
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 225 degrees F.
  2. Cover a large baking sheet with aluminum foil {to help with clean-up}
  3. Cut 4-5 eighteen inch pieces of aluminum foil.
  4. {Although you can be organized and do this with one person, I find the easiest way is for this to now becomes a 2 man job. One person will handle the meat and therefore will be "contaminated", The another stays "clean" and handles everything EXCEPT the meat.}
  5. Generously season ribs with salt and pepper.
  6. Slice ribs into portions of 2-3 bones each.
  7. Put a dollop of barbecue sauce on one of the pieces of the aluminum foil, add 2 portions of ribs, cover ribs with sauce, add another portion and more sauce.
  8. Fold up foil to seal ribs into the packet. Plave sealed packet on foil covered baking sheet.
  9. Repeat with remaining ribs.
  10. Place tray of rib packets in oven and roast for approximately 4 hours.
  11. Remove tray from oven, open packets and barbecue ribs to sear and crisp up.

Hope you enjoy, if you have any questions, please ask and I will do my very best to answer them.

    Oh wow those look great. I was never a fan of ribs at all till Russell did some in the crock pot. I may have actually had more of them than he did. I just bookmarked your broccoli salad recipe. I have everything to make it except the bacon. Is that really an essential ingredient? I’d love to make it tonight.

      You could definitely make the Broccoli Salad without the bacon JoJo, but the taste may suffer a wee bit. {I belong to the anything with bacon in it taste good group…lol}
      If you decide to go ahead without the bacon, let me know what you think, as I have always used it.

    These were amazing. I served 4 couples . Everyone loved them. I served the ribs with corn on the cob on the barbecue as well. We finished them on a small smoker/charcoal barbecue. Delicious. Thanks.

    Thanks for the tip about b for back ribs being better. I never knew that and we did serve ribs at the cottage the other weekend when the kids were down but I had boiled them first in beef consommé and then put on bbq – they were very good but gonna try your way next time. They look delicious. Putting back ribs on my grocery list to try this recipe very soon.
