What Does Valentine’s Day Mean to You? {w/ Recipe for Sugar Cookies}

What is Valentine’s Day? Is it a day that we hold special, taking the opportunity to do something nice for the one, or one’s we love? Or is it, as the cynics among us proscribe, just a day created by companies to move product during a particularly slow period in the retail calendar? Actually, it’s neither. Saint Valentine’s Day is, or was, a religious celebration honouring Valentinus, an early Christian Saint. The day didn’t really take on romantic overtones until 18th century … [Read more...]

DIY Pumpkin Man ~ Perfect for Fall!

DIY Pumpkin Man ~ I'm not quite sure where this summer went? One day I was sitting on the deck clad in capris, a tanktop and sunglasses, sipping a chilled glass of wine; the next I was wearing jeans, a heavy sweater, wrapped in a wool throw and sipping hot chocolate. (dosed with Caramel Baileys - my newest obsession...lol). Honestly, I am not exaggerating, that is exactly how quickly it all happened this year. … [Read more...]

Do you prepare a Nativity Tray?

A week from today is Christmas Eve and I want to share with you a relatively new tradition in our home.  I think this Christmas Eve will be our tenth year to prepare a Nativity Tray, which is a medieval English custom. I first read about it in, Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach.  I thought it was such a wonderful thing to do and to me, it epitomizes the spirit of, "good-will toward men".  If you have the Simple Abundance book you can read all about the Nativity Tray on the … [Read more...]
