Homemade Pan Rolls

Homemade Pan Rolls ~  Let’s be honest, I think just most of us would agree, there is absolutely nothing that smells as delicious as homemade bread baking! It makes me drool just thinking a lot it. Having said that, I haven’t been experiencing that delicious aroma very much lately. When my kids were younger and I was working full-time and life was super busy, I made bread way more than I do now. Go figure? You would think it would be the complete opposite, wouldn't you? I guess that old … [Read more...]

How to Make Classic French Toast

French toast has been a breakfast staple in our home for years.  It's quick, easy and can be as simple or fancy as you like. When my kids were little I would often make it for weekday breakfast and would use whatever bread I had on hand.  They weren't fussy at all and would always gobble it up. (That is, until they became teenagers and suddenly were way too cool for breakfast...*sigh*) I still whip up a batch on a regular basis.  It's often a bit of a last-minute idea, so I just use … [Read more...]

Cheddar Scones

As most of you know, I love to bake. I can happily pass hour after hour thumbing through recipes and trying new creations.  Some of these creations turn out amazing and become regulars in the Parlee kitchen...others, well, not so amazing!  I recently did a Mother's Day post, and as part of the write up, tried a recipe for Cheddar Scones found on the PC®  website. These scones definitely belong in the amazing group.  Not only are the easy to make and contain ingredients you most likely have in … [Read more...]

How to Make Hot Cross Buns {Recipe}

Hot Cross Buns are an Easter/Springtime tradition for us.  In the past I would always buy them, but last year, I decided to make them... and they were DELICIOUS! If you are not familiar, Hot Cross Buns are a spiced sweet bun made with currants and other dried fruits and marked with a cross on the top.  In many countries, they are  traditionally eaten on Good Friday, but are now popular all year round, especially in the spring. In many historically Christian countries, these buns are … [Read more...]

Banana Chip Bread ~ Recipe

Banana Chip Bread is a bit of an easy and yummy variation on a traditional Banana Bread.  Kids and adults alike will love this simple to make and very tasty bread! If you are anything like me, you always have a couple overripe bananas hanging around in a bowl on the kitchen table.  Most banana bread and banana muffin recipes call for three ripe bananas. So, if I have only one or two, I peel them and slip them into a freezer bag, adding to the bag until I get three and then start a new … [Read more...]

Grammie’s Oatmeal Molasses Brown Bread

I mentioned in an earlier post how most of Canada is now in the midst of the "dog days" of winter.  I live on the east coast and we have already been totally pummeled this year and winter has officially, barely begun.  On December 23rd we were entombed in ice more than an inch thick, lost power for days (many for up to 11 days!) had four successive snow storms and are now in the midst of bone chilling, record breaking cold temperatures. What is a girl to do with all of this wild weather but … [Read more...]

Rosemary & Sea Salt Focaccia

My husband is a huge Italian food fan.  He would literally eat Italian, especially pasta, every day of the week and be completely happy!  I like Italian food also, but I am definitely not in the same league! However, I must admit to loving Italian focaccia bread. Focaccia is a flat oven-baked Italian bread, which is usually topped with herbs or other ingredients. It is popular in Italy and is usually seasoned with olive oil and salt. … [Read more...]
