Even though it’s December 15th…and I am relatively prepared for the upcoming holiday, it didn’t actually “feel” like Christmas until this morning!
Leaving the Harbour Lights/CBC 2016 Christmas special
Today in the pre-dawn hours I ventured out in the minus 12 degree cold and hit the road for the 30 minute drive to Saint John to meet my sister. We then headed to the Saint John City Market for the annual CBC Saint John Harbour Lights show.
All proceeds raised from this special event go to feed hungry families in Southern New Brunswick. We have been going to this live show for the past twelve years. There is nothing that says Christmas, quite like the feeling of gathering as an extended community with the common goal of helping those in need.

Each year Port Saint John installs a giant Christmas tree made of hundreds of twinkling lights near the Saint John harbour. Every $2 donation lights a bulb and as December progresses, bulb by bulb the tree lights up. When the financial goal is met, the star on top is also lit.
This year the CBC Radio crew welcomed a few musical guests, including the high energy, husband/wife team of Tomato/Tomato.

The mayor’s breakfast is always a HUGE success. For a $5.00 donation, you receive a hardy breakfast of sausage, eggs, hash browns, toast, juice and coffee, with all product donated and all proceeds benefitting the Harbour Lights campaign.
Harbour Lights gorgeous, hand-crafted, commemorative mugs were also on sale at the Saint John City Market show. With a limit of two per person, people began to line up at 4:30AM to get one and they were completely sold out by 7AM!
At today’s show, over $26,000 was raised in just two hours. That’s a lot of sausages, eggs and coffee, way to go greater Saint John!
It was an old-fashioned, heartwarming morning and even though I only ran into a couple of people I personally knew, every single person there seemed like a friend as we gathered for a common goal. Everyone was in a wonderful mood, smiling, talking and wishing each other a Merry Christmas!
Finally, the Christmas season has arrived!
