If you have never been to the Saltscapes East Coast Expo in Halifax N.S., I strongly urge you to mark it on your calendar for next year!
A couple of weekends ago I was in the Halifax, N.S. area and by somewhat of a fluke, found out the Saltscapes East Coast Expo was happening that weekend.
I am a long time lover and subscriber to Saltscapes magazine and even though I was aware of the Saltscapes Expo, which just finished its 12th year, I had never been in the area when it was scheduled. So, needless to say, when I found out it was going on while we were there, I was quite excited to have the opportunity to check it out.
On Saturday morning, after a great visit to the Halifax Seaport Farmers’ Market, we programmed the GPS for Exhibition Park in Halifax and headed to the Expo.
The first thing I noticed as we approached the Exhibition Centre, were orange-vested people directing the incoming traffic to parking spots (Bonus, the parking was free). There were literally hundreds of cars but the parking system was very organized we quickly directed to a spot just a short walk from the Centre.
I thought the entrance ticket was going to be a bit pricey but it turned out to be a very reasonable $15.00. Considering we were there 4 or 5 hours, that is pretty cheap Saturday entertainment!
In a nutshell, the Saltscapes Expo features unique artisans, producers, and vendors from Atlantic Canada.
Unique Retail which offers you an opportunity to see, feel, try out and if you wish, purchase products directly from the vendors. It’s the perfect opportunity to buy something for yourself and to stock up for gift-giving occasions.
In the Savour the Flavour area of the Expo (my favourite section), there was food and drink producers showcasing their products. Sampling was encouraged and we also had the chance to watch cook-offs between chefs, where the key ingredients were sourced on-site at the Expo.
There was a big Home, Cottage & Garden presence featuring just about anything and everything you may need or want for your home or cottage.
Living Healthy is a topic that is top-of-mind many for people, as well as, families. There were lots of fun and informative booths showcasing products and services that focus on everything from hearing to diet, and wellness clinics to fitness programs.
The Culture, Music & Travel part of the Saltscapes Expo featured travel, culture, and music within Atlantic Canada. It gave you an opportunity explore some signature destinations and events, as well as, attractions, museums, golf resorts and family getaways, to name just a few.
Saltscapes Pet Place focuses on our family’s furry friends. (another favourite of mine and if the crowds were any indication, a huge hit at the Expo.
Saltscapes Magazine and Saltscapes East Coast Expo feature the best of Atlantic Canada’s food & drink, home & cottage, people & culture, travel & tourism. If you are ever in the area when the expo is happening I highly recommend paying it a visit!
