Our Getaway to New River Beach Provincial Park

For the past ten summers, my sisters and I have gone on a camping/glamping trip to New River Beach Provincial Park. We all have grown kids, many of whom are scattered across the country (and come "home" for summer vacations) so coordinating dates for this trip has always been a bit of a challenge. Naturally, if the "kids" are home, none of us want to lose any of the precious time that we have with them. Some years we have gone on our trip as early as mid-June and this year it was the last … [Read more...]

There’s Still Time To Go Camping {w/ Checklist}

When our kids were little, Music Man and I always took them camping a few times every summer. Back in those days we pitched a tent and slept in sleeping bags on the floor. Our luxury item was "bubble pads", think bubble wrap in a large sheet, but there were no air mattresses like we have now.  We have lots of great memories (and some not so great...but we laugh at them now!) from those early days of camping. It's not too late to enjoy some time in the great outdoors! As a matter of fact, my … [Read more...]

New River Beach Provincial Park in New Brunswick, Canada

A couple of weeks ago now, as a bit of a final grasp on summer, my sisters and I took a camping trip to New River Beach Provincial Park in New Brunswick. New River Beach is less than an hours drive from my home and I have visited it many, many, many times in the past. I have to say, that even though I have been there numerous times, New River Beach never fails to impress me with its natural beauty and breathtaking ocean views. Early morning fog drifting over the mud flats (low tide) … [Read more...]

Loving the Great Outdoors #WoodsExplorer {w/$450 Prize Pkg}

As anyone who knows me will attest, I love camping and the great outdoors!  That’s not to say I don’t enjoy a vacation in a five-star hotel because I do.  It’s just that these are two entirely different experiences, each with their own pluses and minuses. Like many people, I sometimes find the daily grind of what to have for dinner and then cooking the meal a bit of a chore. So you would think I would absolutely dread cooking on a camp stove. Not the case! Maybe it's the laid-back relaxed … [Read more...]

~ CLOSED ~ Love the Great Outdoors? Become a #WoodsExplorer {w/$450 Prize Pkg}

Anyone who knows me is well aware of my love for camping and the great outdoors. If I had my way (which I don't always get...lol), I would be camping every vacation and every weekend in the summer. I always tell my family that I was born one hundred or one hundred and fifty years too late. I would have loved traveling the country in a covered wagon and settling in a small house by a river, somewhere in the middle of nowhere. If you love spending your summer vacation in the great outdoors, … [Read more...]

Unplug & Reconnect at a Carefree RV Park or Campground in Ontario!

Ask my family, it is no secret that I love to go camping. There is something so totally relaxing about leaving all your cares and electronics behind for some time in the great outdoors! Nothing to do except close your eyes or read a book while listening to the sounds of water lapping at the shore, birds chirping and sweet laughter. When our kids were little, my poor un-outdoorsy husband would humour me and we would go camping a few times every summer.  Now, when I say camping, I mean … [Read more...]

I am going to give you a downloadable camping checklist (at bottom of post), but I also thought it would be good to mention a few details about some of the items on the list Just remember – these are just suggestions. 49 Things You Need to Know About Camping

Photo credit: roehrs2012 via Visual hunt / CC BY-NC-ND 49 Things You Need to Know About Camping    Finally, the weather has improved, spring has arrived and I have camping on my mind.  I'm not quite sure what I love about leaving my comfortable home with bathrooms, showers, bathtubs, stove, oven, electricity, running water and comfortable beds to live out of boxes & bags in the middle of nowhere, but I do! I have always felt I was born 100 years too late. I think I was … [Read more...]

The Twisted Sisters Go Camping!

After many weeks of counting the days, it is finally almost here.  Tomorrow I am heading out on a 6 day, 5 night camping trip with my sisters.  We’re going to be staying in a "rustic shelter" at a Provincial Park, in New Brunswick. This is our 5th year of what has become an annual event;  a way to get away for 6 glorious days, from husbands, kids, worries and responsibilities! When I say rustic shelter. I do mean rustic. It is basically a 14' x 14' wood frame covered in a heavy-duty tarp.  No … [Read more...]
