Mushroom, Leek and Turkey Sausage Stuffing

I don't know exactly where it went, but boy oh boy, did this summer ever fly by! Honestly, it just seems like a few weeks ago that our daughter and her two sweet puppies were home for a visit...and that was the end of May! Already, many of our trees are starting to show their stunning colours of gold, orange, and red. The days are still comfortably warm, but there is a definite nip in the air once the sun goes down. This is the time of year when I love to bake pumpkin muffins, apple pies, … [Read more...]

BBQ Turkey Sausage, Potatoes and Vegetable Foil Packs

I love summer!  It's just an entirely different pace than the rest of the year. Even when we're not officially on "vacation", for me, the entire season feels somewhat like a vacation.  Life seems to slow down and the summer vibe is more relaxed. Even though we still eat as nutritiously as possible, preparation and execution are much more laid back in the summer. Think barbecue! Canadians are crazy for BBQ season. And nothing says summer barbeque better than putting juicy, tasty turkey on the … [Read more...]

Super Popular Recipes ~ The Top 16 Recipes of 2016

As cliché as it sounds, it really is difficult to believe that 2016 has come and gone. It was a busy year for me. With our kids now grown and living in other provinces we decided to downsize and in September, sold the home that we had lived in for close to twenty years. Music Man and I have set out on a new, exciting and hopefully fun adventure. We are presently renting a great house, but are hoping, in the very near future, to find the perfect "fixer-upper" to renovate. Stay tuned as I am … [Read more...]

After a fairly mild, but still very long winter, if I cautiously peek around the corner I can see spring finally making her way toward us. I can barely wait to shed my winter clothes, put out the patio furniture and start digging in the garden. for me, spring is always a hopeful time of year. It holds the promise of long hours of daylight, warmer temperatures, barbecues, hiking and finally being able to  get out of the house without twenty layers of clothing! I'm also trying to shed some … [Read more...]

The Greatest Flavour on Earth is the Taste of Home ~ Onion Gravy {w/Recipe}

Until he retired, I never knew my dad loved to cook.  I was in high school at the time and I remember he used to make the most fabulous meals. He even made his own mayonnaise; which back then, at least in my circles, was pretty much unheard of! I can still vividly recall coming home from school to the most wonderful aroma of chicken or beef roasting and his famous molasses cookies cooling on racks...YUM! Isn't it amazing how aromas have the ability to transport you back in time?  Whenever … [Read more...]

35 Amazing Christmas Treats You Will Love to Make

One of my favourite activities during the Christmas holidays is baking.  Back when I was first married, my mom and I started a tradition of getting together for a day long baking session. At the end of the day we each had tins full of cookies, squares and other holiday treats! Early in the morning, I would put on a big pot of coffee and apple cider, haul out some baking supplies, clear counter space and pop in some Christmas tunes.  My mom would arrive at my house early in the morning with … [Read more...]

Lady Ashburnham Pickles

Lady Ashburnham Pickles ~ We haven't made these, or any pickles for that matter,  in quite a few years.  No reason for the pickle drought, except maybe laziness.  Well,  this year we turned our kitchen into "Pickle Central" and made dill, sweet Bread and Butter and this delicious, all time favourite of ours and many other Maritimers, Lady Ashburnham. Our  favourite way to eat these is with a creamy mound of mashed potatoes, but they have an almost relish like consistency so they would also be … [Read more...]

Our first attempt at making dill pickles.

In our house, we are all dill pickle fanatics and have often talked about the possibility of making a batch ourselves.  Our son, who lives in Ontario, is home for a couple weeks vacation, he also wants to learn, so we thought it would be a great time to attempt the making of the dill pickles. On Saturday we all went to a local Farmer's Market and along with lots of other great produce and fish we picked up a basket of pickling cucumbers.  We now felt committed, and yesterday the process … [Read more...]
