Baked Beans ~ Delicious and Economical {Recipe}

In our home we all love baked beans and every fall/winter I make a big batch at least 3 or 4 times.   Served with a delicious loaf of molasses brown bread and a couple slices of ham, with some pancakes on the side {my husbands favourite!} or as part of a big Sunday brunch or dinner you cannot beat baked beans for economy as well as taste. Many people like beans in a tomato sauce, but not me, I only make them in a sweet, delicious molasses sauce...my mouth is watering just thinking … [Read more...]

Pancakes ~ Fluffy, Delicious and Easy to Make {Recipe}

This past week we celebrated Shrove Tuesday which is also known as Pancake Day, Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras (which is French for Fat Tuesday). Shrove Tuesday gets its name from the custom for many Catholics of marking the day with feasting on pancakes (in ancient times it was a good way to use up eggs, milk and sugar) before the fasting season of Lent begins. For Tuesday's dinner we had a feast of delicious, fluffy pancakes and home-made baked beans, it was so good! 4.6 from 5 … [Read more...]

Macaroni Surprise {Recipe}

When my husband makes dinner Macaroni Surprise is often his go-to meal.  He has worked with a couple of family recipes and created his "masterpiece".  It's so nice to walk in the door at dinner time and feel the love and smell the delicious aroma of this casserole baking!  Over the years, the kids and I have lovingly dubbed it "Macaroni Surprise".   Macaroni Surprise 1 pound lean ground beef1 large onion (roughly chopped)1 green pepper (seeded and roughly chopped)1 … [Read more...]

Chicken Parmesan

My husband is a Chicken Parmesan fanatic, it is his favourite meal and always his request when I ask him what he would like for his birthday dinner. A few years ago I was watching the Food Network and saw an episode where Tyler Florence made Chicken Parmesan, and that was it, I wanted to make it too!  I searched recipe books and online and by taking ideas from here and there, finally came up with what is now one of our family's favourite recipes. We make it several times a year and it just … [Read more...]

How Did the Deer Guard Recipe Work? {Photos – One month later}

A few weeks ago I posted a recipe for a concoction called Deer Guard.  It is sprayed on your flowers and the theory is the deer don't like the taste/smell of it and won't eat your plants. How did it work?  See for yourself... … [Read more...]

Veggie Burger ~ {Recipe}

Veggie Burger ~ I am not technically a vegetarian, I really don't eat much beef or pork at all, but I do eat fish, poultry and the odd piece of bacon. The rest of my family loves a nicely barbecued burger, but, they are definitely not my thing! I always felt a bit "left out" when I just had salad or whatever other side dish we happened to be having.  So, I decided to do a bit of research and came up with this recipe. If you're looking for a "burger feel" to your veggie burger, this may … [Read more...]
