If you know me or follow my blog you are aware I am a huge proponent of green living and sustainability. I have a weekly blog post titled, Living Green – One Tip at a Time, and my family and I strive in our everyday living to decrease our environmental footprint.
So, naturally, I was very intrigued when I was first introduced to Repurpose products. Repurpose was founded in 2009 by a group of young environmental entrepenuers, looking for quality solutions to the problem of single use petroleum based plastic products.

The technology behind the Repurpose insulated hot cup keeps hot beverages warmer longer, and prevents heat from escaping the cup while protecting the user from burning their hands without the use of sleeves, “jackets” or double-cupping!
Traditional insulated cups are made by adding additional layers of paper, but the Repurpose insulated hot cup does the same, better, with their patented insulation material on a single wall cup.
These insulated cups are also chlorine free and use soy-based inks.
Best of all the product generates less CO2 than a traditional paper cup when produced due to it’s Ingeo lining, and can be composted in 90 days in a commercial composter, offering the greenest possible alternative to Styrofoam and all other non-compostable insulated cups.

I love the idea, my husband is hard man to break of his habit of buying non re-usable coffee cups when he is at work and it drives me crazy! Perhaps this one would do the trick for him to stop wasting so much paper products!

Does repurpose compostables require GMO corn?
No, special crops or modifications are not required to produce repurpose compostables. During the manufacture of PLA, the multiple-stage processing and high heat used to create the polymer removes all traces of genetic material. repurpose compostables also undergo NON-GMO Certification processes.

I learned that purpose compostables should be composted in industrial compost facilities, not a backyard composter.

I found out that it is recommended that repurpose compostables be stored at temperatures less than 105ºF (40ºC)
I learned that the cups are chlorine free
In learnt that it is not recommended for use in typical backyard composting due to the lack of high temperature and inconsistent conditions.
I really like what they say on the first page about using plants and not petroleum. That is awesome.
